Communicating effectively is vital to success in just about every part of our lives. At the top of the list of what makes communication is BEING SPECIFIC!
Much of our miscommunication comes from the lack of being specific. We believe we’re being specific when we say:
This is needed next week.
Be there around 3 for the meeting.
I like blue.
The reality is, we’re being too vague. When exactly next week? Monday or Tuesday . . .? Exactly what time is the meeting? 2:45 or 3:15 or some other time? What shade of blue do you like? Navy, Sky Blue, or some other shade? You know what you mean, but very often, the person you’re communicating with has a different interpretation.
My advice, never assume, always be SPECIFIC as to avoid errors.
